PITTSBURGH — Today, Astorino, a Pittsburgh-based architecture, design and construction firm, announced the hiring of Donald J. Jakiel, P.E. as the company’s new electrical department head. In this role, Jakiel’s responsibilities include managing client and contractor relations; completing estimates; construction documentation and bid analysis; coordinating electrical design packages such as power distribution, telecommunication, lighting and fire alarm systems.
Jakiel is a registered electrical engineer in seven states with nearly 20 years of experience providing professional electrical system design services. Jakiel will supervise a team of 10 professionals on projects such as the new Consol Energy Arena, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, as well as work at Duquesne University and Cooper Hall at Edinboro University.
Prior to joining Astorino, Jakiel served as Electrical Department Manager at BDA Engineering, Inc. in Pittsburgh, and Principal at CJL Engineering, Inc. in Moon Township. Jakiel is extremely knowledgeable of current NEC/IBC codes and LEED green building standards for the development of construction documents.
During his two decades in the field, Jakiel gained extensive experience designing electrical and telecommunication systems for healthcare, hospitality, secondary/higher education and corporate office projects. Notable career highlights include work on over 300,000 square feet of expanded space at Dulles International Airport, 250,000 square feet of renovated classroom space at the University of Pittsburgh and 150,000 square feet of historic renovation at the Marriot Renaissance Hotel in Pittsburgh.
Jakiel currently volunteers for Robinson Township Christian School, of which he was previously a member of the Board of Directors serving as Treasurer and President. He enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, playing golf and attending Pittsburgh Baseball Club games. He received a bachelor’s of science in electrical engineering technology from Point Park University in Pittsburgh.
